Why content audit matters

To align your website's content with your SEO goals, conducting a content audit is crucial. It not only helps identify how your content supports your objectives but also provides valuable insights that can be incorporated into your content strategy.

A thorough content analysis uncovers both high-performing areas and gaps in your website's content, such as in-demand topics that are currently not covered. This enables you to optimize your content for maximum impact.

To ensure that the analysis is both accurate and actionable, it should be based on fresh data. Also, since the website content and your keyword strategy are frequently updated, the content audit should be conducted regularly and through automated processes for optimal depth and consistency.

What's more, properly tracking the results of the analysis is essential. Without a specialized tool that can collect and process website data and link it to improvements, it can quickly become overwhelming.

Content auditing is a crucial part of managing your entire campaign lifecycle within the SEOmonitor platform. From researching new keywords and setting goals, to tracking opportunities and measuring performance, Content Audit ensures that you have actionable insights to drive growth for your clients' business.

The Content Audit Module

The Content Audit module is a comprehensive dashboard that surfaces opportunities to improve the content of the ranking pages of the keywords added to your campaign.

It proactively crawls landing pages and identifies a range of optimization opportunities, such as pages with missing or suboptimal titles or H1s, cannibalization issues, or keywords with missing pages.

It also captures the key content changes that had an impact on Visibility, to help you scale good practices and guide your content iterations.

You can choose to view these insights for specific sets of keywords by selecting the Forecast scenario or the Objective instead of All Keywords from the dropdown. This shows you all the dashboard insights only on the keywords included in the selected scenario or the Objective.

Note: Draft campaigns are based on a one-day data snapshot. For these, the correlations with Visibility section is absent, and the Cannibalization issues section is not active, as these categories require data from the past 30 days to derive insights. Start tracking the campaign to unlock these insights.

Because it is fully integrated with the rest of the platform, you don't need other tools to analyze your content. Being connected with the Rank Tracker, it supports your keyword strategy, and it generates content optimization opportunities only for the keywords you're focusing on. This way, you're able to easily correlate the changes in the content with the effect they had on the rankings.

How it works

In the Content Audit Dashboard, you can view several categories of content optimizations that you can implement in your website, ordered by their Opportunity impact.

Each category shows how many optimizations were identified, how many keywords are impacted by each optimization, and the keyword data: SERP, search and ranking data. These metrics fuel the Opportunity metric, which is then used to sort the categories by their impact on growing the rankings.

Note: The Opportunity metric is calculated at the keyword level, while the category Opportunity is the average of Opportunity metrics inside it. It takes into account how much potential additional traffic can be achieved if the keywords reach top 3, and the difficulty of getting there. Learn more.

In each category, you can view a list of landing pages or keywords ordered by their Opportunity impact, along with their aggregated data, so you can easily set their priority.

By clicking on an opportunity, you can view its details: observations on what's missing or suboptimal, and our improvement recommendations.

For items in each optimization category, you can mark recommendations as reviewed to track your implementation. If they're not implemented, or other changes will occur on the page and the opportunity is triggered again, it will become unchecked, so you can review it again.

Note: We don't yet have the Export functionality in Content Audit. In other words, it is not possible to export data or insights from Content Audit to a spreadsheet or to work with any other tools, but we do have a feature request for this, .

Conclusion

In a nutshell, Content Audit is SEOmonitor's integrated dashboard that highlights the opportunities to improve the ranking pages of your tracked keywords. It performs thorough & consistent analyses through automated processes, integrated with the other modules for accuracy and a streamlined workflow.

As a key process in managing your campaign, auditing your website's content ensures you have actionable insights to reach your SEO goals.
