Starting June 2024, all SEOmonitor accounts have AI Overview (AIO / SGE) detection for all locations where AIO has been rolled out by Google.
As with the rest of the SERP features, we track them daily on both devices, when we process the ranking data.
From September 2025 we are also tracking your and any competitors brand mentions and citations within AIOs separately.
How SEOmonitor reads AI Overview content
For every keyword that triggers an AI Overview in Google:
We capture the full AIO answer, including content hidden behind the “Show more” button, and scan it for brand mentions.
We extract all citation sources, including ones behind the "Show more" button, from the panel on the right side of the AIO card (see example below) and map them to domains and URLs.
We then aggregate this data by keyword, group, landing page, and competitor.
This gives you:
The exact wording of the AI Overview for content optimisation.
The list of sources Google uses to compile the answer, so you can see which pages (yours and third-party) contribute to that visibility.
Accurate performance metrics for your brand and any competitor you select.
AIO performance reporting for your own brand
SEOmonitor tracks how often your brand is mentioned and cited inside AI Overviews for your tracked keyword set and integrates this data in one view with your performance in Google and AI Search.
For each campaign, you can see:
AIO Mentioned
the percentage of Search Volume where the site is mentioned in the AIO calculated from the total search volume of keywords in this group that trigger AIOs to mention brands.
AIO Cited
The percentage of Search Volume where your site is cited as a source for the AI Overview calculated from the total search volume of keywords that trigger AIOs.Citation rank
Your average position among the citation sources that Google lists for the AIO.Trends over time. The percentage change you see in the Scorecard compares your presence in AIOs on the selected date with the previous one in your date selector.
To see daily changes of brand's presence in AIOs within the selected time frame, use charts. These can be filtered by device and metric (AIO Mentioned, AIO Cited, AIO Rank).
AIO performance reporting for your competitors
You can analyse AIO performance for any competitor you add to the campaign or group.
In the Competition view, for each competitor you will see:
AIO Mentioned: % of search volume where individual competitor's brand is mentioned in the AIO text out of the total Search Volume of keywords triggering AIOs to mention a brand.
AIO Cited: % of search volume where individual competitor's brand is cited in the AIO out of the total Search Volume of keywords triggering AIOs.
AIO Share of Voice measures your share of influence amongst competitors calculated on an 'Impression Score' for each keyword.
How the Score is Calculated:
- If your brand is mentioned in AIO, you get 1pt for a mention or
0.5pts for a citation.
- If no brands are mentioned, you get 1pt for a citation.
The same calculation is used to calculate the score for every competitor you select.
Scores are multiplied by search volume, and your Share of Voice is your
share of the total score among all analyzed competitors in AIOs across the keywords tracked.
Keyword-level view: where you and competitors are present
At keyword level, you can see whether each keyword has an AI Overview, who is present in it, and how (mentioned, cited)
We've conveniently created a folder on AI Overview, with dedicated Smart Groups, so you can quickly see the keywords with AIO on Desktop, and on Mobile.
Keywords in the Keyword Table view are flagged by status (for your brand and any competitor):
No AIO for this query
AIO present but your brand not mentioned
AIO present and your brand mentioned / cited
AIO present and no brand is mentioned
For each keyword that triggers an AIO you can open the saved daily AIO snapshot to review the exact content and citations for that date.
Use filters and sorting to:
Find topics where competitors are mentioned in AIO but your brand is not.
Prioritise by search volume and difficulty to choose the best opportunities.
Landing pages: AIO performance per URL
In the Landing Pages view, you can see how each page performs in AIO across its keyword set:
% of keywords where the page is cited in AI Overviews.
How that presence changes over time.
This is useful when:
You have focused digital PR or content work on specific pages and want to confirm whether AIO visibility also improved.
You want to understand which pages are consistently used as sources in AI Overviews.

Use the performance trend chart to see who is gaining visibility and who is losing, use AIO Share of Voice to report on your visibility share amongst selected competitors.
Correlate with sessions performance
Integrating Google Search Console and Analytics enables you to review non-branded sessions performance and this way check for AIO impact on your site's organic traffic.
In the Rank Tracker review AIO prevalence chart over time to see at what rate keywords with AIOs have been growing and from when
2. For the same group of keywords go into the analysis tab and review sessions changes within the same time frame
3. If your organic visibility maintains roughly the same but keywords with AIOs are growing, whilst non-branded organic sessions are dropping for the same timeframes, you can this way measure impact of AIOs on traffic.
